Car burnt in Hampton Park driveway in Melbourne's south
A 14th car has been firebombed in Melbourne in five days, with police linking the arson spree to organised crime used as an intimidation tactic.
A police commander says it is believed the repeated arson attacks are linked to organised crime and appear to be an intimidation tactic.
Police are investigating another car fire in Melbourne after a week of arson attacks across the city.
The vehicle was parked in the driveway of a home on Horizon Boulevard in Hampton Park when it was engulfed in flames just after 4am.
It is the 14th vehicle destroyed by fire in the past five days.
Police said no-one had been injured.
Arson Squad detectives will examine the scene as investigations continue into the spate of firebombings that have happened outside homes in Taylors Hill, Keilor, Balwyn North, Maidstone, Reservoir and Oakleigh East.
Acting Commander Troy Papworth yesterday said police believed the rise in arson attacks was linked to organised crime and appeared to be an intimidation tactic.
He said the practice posed a major danger to both victims and culprits, with several of the fires spreading to homes this week and a 13-year-old boy clinging to life with burns to 90 per cent of his body after the Taylors Hill blaze.
