NASA’s Curiosity rover captures stunning Martian dawn
NASA's Curiosity rover has photographed ancient wind-sculpted cliffs on Mars at dawn, giving scientists new clues about how the planet dried out billions of years ago.
NASA's Curiosity rover has captured a remarkable image of the Martian landscape at dawn.
NASA's Curiosity rover captured a striking dawn image of ancient wind-sculpted rock formations called yardangs on Mount Sharp inside Gale Crater.
The yardang layer stretches about 16 kilometres across Mount Sharp and is believed to have formed roughly three billion years ago from windblown sediments including possible volcanic ash.
Scientists hope studying these rocks will reveal how Mars transformed from a planet with lakes and flowing water into the cold, dry world it is today.
NASA scientists hope Curiosity will reach these formations in 2027 or 2028 to examine their composition directly, so expect more findings then.
