Supercars rookie Zach Bates stunned the field at Bathurst to claim provisional pole ahead of the Top 10 Shootout.
Rookie Zach Bates secured provisional pole position at the Bathurst 1000, upstaging experienced Supercars champions in qualifying.
Bates will be the last driver out in the Top 10 Shootout, the most coveted spot on the grid at Mount Panorama.
Saturday also saw animal-related drama on track and a chaotic Porsche Carrera Cup start caused by faulty lights.
