About Cuppa Codeword

Codeword is a crossword with no clues. Every letter of the alphabet has been swapped for a number from 1 to 26, and the same number always stands for the same letter. A few letters are given to start you off; from there it is deduction, vocabulary and a little nerve.

A new Codeword grid is published every morning. It suits solvers who like crosswords but want something that relies on pattern spotting rather than general knowledge. Free to play in your browser, no app needed.

How to play Codeword

  1. Start from the letters already revealed and fill them in everywhere their number appears.
  2. Look for short words and common patterns: a three-letter word ending in the same letter twice is often ALL or ADD.
  3. Assign a letter to a number and watch it fill across the grid. If a word stops making sense, undo and try another.
  4. Complete the grid so every number has a letter and every word is real.

A new puzzle is published every morning, Sydney time, and signed-in members keep their streaks and scores across devices.
